What is MedCFD?MedCFD is an innovative software environment for the steady and unsteady flow in an aneurysm model. The complete object-oriented method is implemented and runs on the Windows platform. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) are essential to simulate human physiological flows. There are many software packages for CFD analysis, but they are usually too complicated for non-engineering professionals, especially for medical doctors or biomedical researchers. MedCFD's enhanced automation eliminates user-dependent mistakes. MedCFD also drastically reduces the time to create models. The user thus does not need to know the details of pre-processing procedures and the preparation of boundary conditions for CFD numerical analyses. In fact, our aim was to provide a software product for the end-user who has a very limited knowledge of the numerical methods and algorithms built into the package. It was important to develop an application which could be used on Windows machines, today's standard for software development. The software also supports the transfer of data to other Windows automatically. The OpenGL within C++ is used to build the graphical user interface. MedCFD simulates the blood flow through the aneurysm by automatically generating a realistic geometric model. It was found that the blood flow through the aneurysm is very complex, with a reattachment and separation points. Such saddle points can be easily determined with MedCFD. |
