The system is designed to:- register patients’ personal data;
enter data on results of examination, laboratory analyses and functional tests, medicines prescribed (in the on-line mode);
provide on-time and reliable information for medical staff;
monitor the staff performance;
make the archived information on patients available;
generate multiple reference data and statistics.
The system is designed to:
create, maintain and update a single data bank on the patients examined;
automate the out-patient’s card entry;
receive and forward the results of functional, laboratory and X-ray investigations;
maintain long-term archiving to retrieve the information used for repeated visits of a patient;
analyze the workload of the medical staff individually and as a whole;
analyze the morbidity rate for the given period;
maintain records and generate reports;
process statistics;
protect data from unauthorized access.
Benefits:
a specially developed tool, Database Administrator, which enables tailoring of the system for a particular medical institution and its specialization;
data integrity, relevance and security;
user friendly interface based on using a wide range of directories that reduces the time of data input and simplifies the use of the system;
maintenance of medical reference information in the system enabling the beginners to apply the expertise of leading specialists;
monitoring the completeness of patient’s cards (the examination cannot be complete without the final diagnosis);
reduction of time spent on reports by medical staff;
on-line access to the information;
data protection from unauthorized access;
system comprehension, availability of help system and prompts;
quick and easy connection of additional workstations;
provision of versatile information for top management to facilitate scheduling, control and other managerial functions.
Structure
Policlinic implements current investigation and treatment procedures for out-patients and comprises the following subsystems:
register’s workstation;
specialist’s workstation;
manager’s workstation;
consultant’s workstation;
statistics service’ workstation;
laboratory and diagnostics services’ workstation;
DB administrator’s workstation.
Kernel
The kernel of the system constitutes the patients’ data bank which is a complete analogue of Out-patient’s Card and a reference system.
The data bank stores the following information:
patients’ personal data;
diagnoses and investigation results forwarded;
out-patient’s card;
investigations assigned and their results;
out-patient’s examination routes;
final recommendations given to the patient, appointments for further examination and treatment.
The reference system includes general medical directories and directories that reflect the structural organization and specific character of the medical institution.
Medical directories:
nosology guide;
standard examination procedures directory;
patient’s complaints, history and results of outer examination;
clinical description of diagnoses;
reference analyses and investigations.
Administrative directories:
medical specializations and categories directory;
policlinic specialists directory;
reception timetable;
telephone and address directories and the like.
Technical requirements
Due to the fact that it is developed using Informix database management system (DBMS), the application is portable and multi-platformed, i.e. it can run on different hardware platforms from different manufacturers.
Policlinic is an integrated system comprising workstations intended for medical specialists of various profile, based on personal computers and connected into a local area network (LAN) on the basis of host server.
The host computer running UNIX performs functions of DB server of the medical institution. The modern Informix RDBMS and Informix-4GL running under UNIX are applied as basic system software.
